I remember once, as a child, pulling half of my eyelashes out. I remember making wishes on each of them and the odd fierce joy at the pain of plucking them out.
I had thought it less obvious if I spread the lash plundering out evenly across both eyes and I remember thinking that it would not be noticible.
Unfortunately I was wrong. My eyelids became enflamed and red and they hurt tremendously.
I remember this moment nearly everytime I find an eyelash, whether mine or others. I don't remember what I wished for. I still encourage other people to make wishes when blowing away their eyelashes.
When I wish though, I just think "I wish..." and leave it open ended. It is enough just to wish for wishes.

There are things that I love about Melbourne:
silent migration of bats flying low overhead
the ever present ominous thunderstorm
the chikchakchikchakchikchak of trains making their way to and fro
my own bed.
There are also things that I like very much about Tassie.
But I'll write about those later.

Sometime tonight after hours
Of couch and unfulfilling tv
I found myself slumped like a beggar in the very new hours of the day
Listening to old YouTube clips of Anis Mojgani
Slam poet
And as I watch, I imagine writing like him with well planned pauses
and the ability to enunciate like angels.
Old angels, who have been around the block once or twice.
And somewhere in the midst of this aural meditation, I notice my foot has gone to sleep
telling my body and brain to do what it should have done hours ago:
Go to bed.
So I did
And I'm here,
Writing poetry instead.
